Maybe it’s not the end, but it is the beginning of the end, to paraphrase Winston Churchill. The end in this case is the end to my ordeal in writing my first novel, “Jackson Flats.” The book is now in the final stages of the last read through – or proofing. It is indeed the beginning of the end.
“Jackson Flats” is now in the care of some friends of mine from the Carrollton Creative Writing Club, who are reading through my book and proofing it for the last time. (This has to be the last time. No time exists for proofing it yet another time.) I am certain they will find all the errors or omissions I did not.
I read the text two times more before I pass it two my friends to scrutinize.
Those two addition readings represented probably the 11th and 12th times I had read the book. After reading it that many times, I can assure you, it is a good read. Once this final, final proofing is completed, I will have my book back in my sweaty hands and will personally transport it to my publisher for – yes! – printing in book form.
In this final proofing stage, I have had a chance to see “Jackson Flats” as it will appear in its on-the-shelf trappings, with front and back cover complete and the book all bound nicely in soft cover. If you have seen the image I have provided of the cover, you know it looks great – the kind of cover I think will pull readers in for a ride they will not soon forget. If you haven’t seen the cover, I present it again in this blog, soon. (You can view it at charleswanager.com)
Whether you have seen the cover or not, and whether you like the cover or not, get the book when it comes out – details will be provided in this blog and at charleswanager.com as to the date of release and where it can be purchased. According to the publisher, “Jackson Flats” will be available online at the time of its release.
Do yourself a favor – get “Jackson Flats” and read it. You’ll be glad you did!
